“[Robin’s] visit was amazing as it hit on every feature of what makes a strong author/illustrator visit: it was personal, engaging, inspiring, and will be memorable for all of the students.”

Sample slide from my TWO DOGS ON A TRIKE presentation.
I am currently booking visits for 2025!
1. SWEET BABE!
Read-aloud + activities (20-30 mins)
This presentation is best suited for babies to 4-year olds. I do an interactive read-aloud of SWEET BABE! where I encourage participation and we learn some Yiddish words. Afterwards we can:
Play a game where we get up and move our bodies, point to our different body parts and learn their names in Yiddish and English, and/or…
Do a drawing activity where we color a coloring sheet that is based on the “Parts of Baby” glossary in SWEET BABE!
2. TWO DOGS ON A TRIKE
Read-aloud + presentation OR read-aloud + activities
This presentation is best suited for pre-K to second graders. I read TWO DOGS ON A TRIKE aloud then talk about how I created the pictures for the book—from finding inspiration and drawing the initial rough sketches to creating the final artwork. I tailor the simplicity of the explanation based on the grade I am visiting. I also talk a little bit about how I became an illustrator and about how I deal with being frustrated when my drawings don’t look the way I want them to! If time allows we can also draw a few dogs and cats together. (For younger audiences I can just do a read-aloud followed by a drawing activity.)
3. BIG IDEAS FOR LITTLE PHILOSOPHERS
Read-aloud + presentation OR read-aloud + activities (30-45mins)
This presentation is best suited for pre-K to first graders. We read a few books from the BIG IDEAS FOR LITTLE PHILOSOPHERS series together and then talk about how I developed the characters and created the pictures, and I will do a drawing demonstration or a group drawing activity where I show kids how to draw different facial expressions and emotions—like happy, sad, mad, and scared— with different mouth, eye, and eyebrow shapes. We can also have a group discussion of some of the big ideas presented in the books. (For younger audiences I can just do a read-aloud followed by a drawing activity.)
Fees
I do virtual visits for $200 (one 30-45 minute presentation), or on-site visits in the New York City area starting at $600 for one to two 45-minute presentations. Please email me at robin[at]robinrosenthal.com if you’d like more information.
Testimonials
“[Robin’s] Zoom visit had the 90+ students engaged the whole time. The visit was interactive as she did real time illustrating demos and had the kids do it as well. To the joy of the students, she gave them feedback on their illustrations.
“Her focus was on how she creates and what her individual process is, as well as what creating a picture book from beginning to end entails. She talked about editing and revising with input from editors and publishers and how mistakes and corrections are part of the process. She made plenty of time for Q & A and was caring and thoughtful in her replies.
“The visit was amazing as it hit on every feature of what makes a strong author/illustrator visit: it was personal, engaging, inspiring, and will be memorable for all of the students.”
